Sue Solomon Shows Up!
Sue Solomon shows up. As a parent, teacher, PTA member, site council leader, and school board member, she is always informed, prepared, and ready to serve. Over the last 30 years, I have seen her commitment to improving NSD for the sake of the children, parents, and the Newhall community. As a teacher in the district, I’ve been heartened and inspired by her steadfast commitment to the district’s music program.
The NSD comprehensive music program is one of the only elementary programs that has endured uninterrupted since its inception in 1978. Sue’s unwavering advocacy has been critical to that survival. Many schools in California cut their arts programs during economic downturns. Neighboring districts are only now rebuilding or launching them from scratch. Early on, as a parent, Sue’s leadership of the Music Makers booster club helped transform that organization into a non-profit PTA, bringing greater visibility to the program and increasing financial contributions. In concert with administrators and staff, her staunch support ever since has been key to keeping the program thriving.
Sue shows up at schools, classrooms, assemblies, performances, and promotion ceremonies. She’s there because she wants to know about the student experience at each Newhall School District campus. As a school board member, she takes her responsibility seriously, wanting to understand all sides of an issue before weighing in on decisions. Having been involved in the district in every role, from newbie parent to veteran board member, she benefits from a perspective educated by first-hand experience. Coupled with this hands-on approach, Sue possesses a rare sense of what is fair and honest.
Sue Solomon brings a balance of openness and insightful leadership to the board. We can count on her faithful service, fierce dedication to academic excellence, and commitment to preserving and enhancing the arts.
